“Quilts 4 London,” is a textile project celebrating the 2012
Olympics. The aim is to design and make a pennant to give to every athlete who
takes part in the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Macclesfield Silk Industry
Museum, Park Lane, is fortunate to be able to currently exhibit a wonderful
display of these pennants, celebrating the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics,
in the temporary Exhibition Galley at Park Lane.
People of all ages and abilities throughout the U.K. have
expressed their support for the Olympics through the medium of fabric, fibre
and stitching, using a variety of textile media. At least one of the delightful
pennants on display has been designed and made by Veda Royle, a talented local
textile enthusiast who has celebrated Macclesfield’s history by incorporating
Macclesfield silk and buttons in her beautiful creation. Curator, Annabel
Wills, was thrilled to welcome this “Royle” Visitor, to the museum in this
Diamond Jubilee year to see her pennant displayed in the exhibition. “Our
“Royle” visitor was most impressed by the creativity, skill and variety of
techniques demonstrated by those who have contributed pennants to the project.
We hope to welcome many more visitors to the exhibition over the following
three weeks.”
If you would like to see this wonderful exhibition you will need
to put on your running shoes and jog along to the exhibition which remains at
the museum until the end of April before completing its marathon around the U.K.
The “Quilts for London” Exhibition April 2nd-April 30th,
